As We May Think Vannevar Bush

Wayne Booth (1961/1983) proposed the key concept of the implied author, as well as the continuing influence of that concept in research on literary narrative via the model that has come to be called the "narrative communication diagram". A compromise formation, the implied author allows for textual designs-that is, what readers, viewer, or interlocutors construe as the nonrandom patterning of textual features-to be accounted for through attributions of intention to a designing agent.

But these explanatory attributions are now displaced onto eh mock psychology of a (textually marked) role or persona, whose inferred communicative aims and larger value orientation afford a rhetorical context for interpreting acts of narration. (source)

Suspension of Disbelief:

Suspension of disbelief or willing suspension of disbelief is a term coined in 1817 by the poet and aesthetic philosopher Samuel Taylor Coleridge, who suggested that if a writer could infuse a "human interest and a semblance of truth" into a fantastic tale, the reader would suspend judgment concerning the implausibility of the narrative.

Cognitive estrangement in fiction involves using a person's ignorance or lack of knowledge to promote suspension of disbelief.

The phrase "suspension of disbelief" came to be used more loosely in the later 20th century, often used to imply that the burden was on the reader, rather than the writer, to achieve it. This might be used to refer to the willingness of the audience to overlook the limitations of a medium, so that these do not interfere with the acceptance of those premises. These fictional premises may also lend to the engagement of the mind and perhaps proposition of thoughts, ideas, art and theories.
Touchpoints in Design:

In user experience design the “machine” is going to be replaced by interaction systems made up of multiple touchpoints. This is a new challenge for designers. An interaction system is a both a technical and a social infrastructure as well, made by multiple and crossed interfaces, services, applications and contexts, which are the connective tissue of the user experience. (source)

As it’s used today, touchpoint seems to be an umbrella term that can refer to any of several different facets of customer experience that are treated individually in the literature. (source)

  • Service Evidence (Tangibles) – The physical elements of a service. Shostack introduced this idea and Parasuraman included it in the 1988 SERVQUAL scale.
  • Service Encounter – The human interactions that take place between a customer and a service provider. Bitner explored the development of this concept in 1990.
  • Servicescape – The environmental aspects of a service. Bitner’s 1992 paper refers to a FedEx dropbox as a “lean environment or servicescape.”

Socrates:

Writing will create forgetfulness in the learners’ souls, because they will not use their memories; they will trust to the external written characters and not remember of themselves. The specific which you have discovered is an aid not to memory, but to reminiscence, and you give your disciples not truth, but only the semblance of truth; they will be hearers of many things and will have learned nothing; they will appear to be omniscient and will generally know nothing; they will be tiresome company, having the show of wisdom without the reality.

...writing is unfortunately like painting; for the creations of the painter have the attitude of life, and yet if you ask them a question they preserve a solemn silence. And the same may be said of speeches. You would imagine that they had intelligence, but if you want to know anything and put a question to one of them the speakers always gives one unvarying answer. And when they have been once written down they are tumbled about anywhere among those who may or may not understand them, and know not to whom they should reply, to whom not: and if they are maltreated or abused they have no parent to protect them; and they cannot protect or defend themselves.
New Hypothesis:

This thesis presents the hypothesis that written text (i.e., stories) can imply a “design system” comprised of forms, colors, and interactions which meet an unexpressed need to concretize the internal thought processes that normally occurs during the act of reading.

This in contrast to other visualized forms derived from written stories such as movies, comic books and gothic novels, which are character centric rather than  “touch point” centric (designed elements that are usually associated with a background or setting which taken together make a complete container for potential future experience).

Such a hypothesis could ...  (the consequences of the what is stated in the first paragraph).
